Don't Worry Little Furry
We Know You Might Have a Lot Of Questions about how we do things here at The Cats' Inn. The answers are below.
Boarding FAQs
Can I tour your facility?
Absolutely! We would love to give you a tour of the perfect cat only facility, designed exclusively with cats in mind. Our 3400 square foot facility is open for tours by appointment. Please call us or email to schedule the best time. We can’t wait to show you your cats home away from home.
Is there a discount for long-term boarding?
It is common for a cat’s stay on average 1-3 weeks, but we do offer a discount for an extended stay of 30 nights or more. Generally, a 5% off peak season discount and 10% off during non-peak season. Please speak to the Front Desk for more information.
Is there a deposit?
A 50% deposit is required for all stays exceeding 14 nights, thereafter payment updates will be charged every 14 nights. We also require your credit card number on file. Due to a long stay, we need to make sure that we are prepared should there be any emergency and your cat needs to be taken to the vet.
How big are the suites there?
Our Suites and Rates page has the dimensions and photos for every boarding option available at The Cats' Inn. https://thecatsinn.net/suites-and-rates.html
How many cats can stay at your facility at one time?
It’s hard to say. We are quite busy during the summer and holidays, and we can’t give an exact number..
Can you send me a photo update daily of my kitty?
During non-peak season, we will send one photo update of your kitty during their stay. We encourage owners to email or call as often as they would like to check in on their kitties, our staff is happy to keep in touch with pet parents about their fur baby. Although we would love to spend more time taking cat photos, cat care does come first. We only send aside a small portion of the day for photo taking. Parents are welcome to request additional photos, but please note this may not get fulfilled based on the cat care needs in the facility at the time.
If my cat needs to go to the vet while he/she is boarding with you, is there an extra charge? Will you take my cat to my own vet?
We will charge for transportation and additional time. We take all our cats to the closest veterinary hospital which is Sage Emergency Veterinary Hospital for emergencies. For non-emergent cases, we will take your cat to VCA Holly Street hospital in San Carlos, based on their availability. We do this because these hospitals are closest to our facility and in the interest of the cats, time is of the essence for medical emergencies.
Can I stay with my cat while they’re being checked in?
We would love to show you where your kitty will be staying! We use the whole facility to maximize the amount of time kitties get to play, so all rooms are secured. Unfortunately, we cannot have visitors in the play areas, we do not want kitties going into different zones of the facility and possibly getting misplaced. If you pick up your kitty after 1pm on their departure date, we are happy to show you where your kitty stayed.
My cat needs medication, is that a problem? Is there an extra charge?
Please see our Medications page for information regarding medication for your cat. Our Manager’s and Leads are well trained for insulin shots, oral medications, fluids, and ointments. https://thecatsinn.net/medications/
Why are you closed to the public on Sundays?
The cats’ caretakers are here 365 days a year to take care of the kitties, which includes Sundays. We do not have front office staff come in on this one day; the reason for this is we need one day a week to deep clean and do facility maintenance to ensure the best environment for all the cats.
Grooming FAQs
Will my cat need sedation to be groomed?
Not all cats need to be sedated. Most don’t. Those cats that are unable to be groomed without sedation will need to have the parent bring it in from the vet as we cannot prescribe it. Usually, your vet will prescribe Gabapentin or Acepromazine. These medications do not fully sedate or put them under, it calms them down enough to perform the grooming services. We will administer it if needed. It takes one to three hours before the effects of the medication set in.

I need transportation. How much is it?

What about fleas? My cat is an indoor kitty – I don’t want them to catch fleas.
We have a “no flea” policy. Any cat that is spotted with fleas will be given Capstar, Advocate ® or Cheristin ® flea control at the parents’ expense. It is always best to apply this when they first come in or at home.
What happens if there is a fire while you are gone during the night?
Our building is set up with a sprinkler system and the Belmont fire department is ~3 miles away. They would respond almost immediately. Plus, we have a security and fire monitoring system that is monitored 24 hrs./day. We also have a 24-hour on-site camera surveillance system.
My cat is old, and I insist that it does not need to be vaccinated.
Unless you have a letter from your vet that recommends that they not be vaccinated any longer, we can exempt them. Otherwise, we must insist that the cat does not board with us unless it is current on its vaccination. All cats other than those exempts must have their FVRCP before they can board – this is for the safety of all our kitties..
Will you board my cat who is 18 years or older?
If your cat has multiple health issues, discuss this with our Front Office Manager, it will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
